September Arrives

September has arrived with a bit of a nip in the air, a hint of the autumn to come.  The whirl of the summer season of hosting volunteer groups has come to an end, and we are settling into school and work.

Harvesting and preserving are in full swing as well.  Apples and grapes were gleaned from near our former home.  The whole family helped with the picking.

After the children harvested all the grapes they could reach, they settled in with library books.

Today we canned six large jars of grape juice and forty-four quarts of applesauce.  The day was long, there were several mishaps, and I am bone-tired; but there is deep joy and satisfaction in working together as a family to preserve food and drink for the winter.
